The climate in Ladakh is extremely cold in winter and the sun's effect is harsher due to the rarified air. You could therefore suffer from conditions as diverse as frostbite and sunburn at the same time, if you're not well protected.
Temperatures in Ladakh, range from -3 to 30 degrees Celsius in the summer and from -20 to 15 degrees Celsius in the winter.

EXCURSION: Leh is also famous for its adventure spots and offers some of the finest trekking routes of India. A hot favorite for motorcycle safari, Leh offers a range of trekking options to its visitors. The treks from Spituk to the Markha valley and Lamayuru Gompa to Chiling village alongside the Zanskar River are the most popular treks of the region. Another popular trekking route is from Likir to Temisgam. Besides trekking, Polo and Archery competitions are also popular in Leh. Regular matches and competitions are held during the Ladakh festival. One can also enjoy river rafting in the Zanskar River from July to September. For summer meditation sessions, one can visit the Mahabodhi Meditation Center on Changspa Lane.
Attractions and Places to Visit in Leh-Ladakh
The major tourist attractions in Leh include the 17th century Leh Palace, Hemis Gompa, Namgyal Tsemo Gompa, Sankar Gompa, Likir Monastery, Shanti Stupa, Thiksey Monastery and Stok Palace.
How to Reach Leh-Ladakh
Road: Leh - Srinagar-Leh road is the main route with an over night halt at Kargil. The road is open between mid June and November. Ordinary and deluxe buses of the J&K state road transport corporation regularly ply on this route. Taxis can also be hired at Srinagar for this trip.
The Manali-Leh Highway - This is a spectacular journey with an over night halt at tented camps at Sarchu or Pang. This journey can be undertaken by the deluxe and ordinary bus services operated by the Himachal Pradesh tourism, HP SRTC and the J&K SRTC or by jeep from either Manali or Leh.Kargil - On the main highway between Srinagar and Leh.
Suru and Zanskar valleys - The road from Kargil into the Suru and Zanskar valleys is open only between July and October. Regular bus services link Kargil to Padum in Zanskar. Group wishing to go to Leh, Kargil or Padum can charter deluxe and a class buses from the J&K SRTC at Srinagar
Air : Leh - Leh is the main airport for this area. Direct flights link it to Delhi, Chandigarh, Srinagar and Jammu. Kargil, Suru and Zanskar valleys - Srinagar and Leh airports are both convenient.
